The Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord: Pearls of Norway

These two arms of the Sognefjord are strikingly beautiful and stunning. The Nærøyfjord is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List.

  • Depth: from 10 to 500 meters 
  • The name Nærøyfjord originates from "Njord", the Norwegian god of seafarers and the sea. 
  • The Nærøyfjord is 250 meters wide at its narrowest, and more than one km at its widest part.

The Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord are the most picturesque branches of the Sognefjord. You will enjoy snow-covered mountain peaks, waterfalls, and small farms clinging to the mountainsides. In winter, mountains are covered with snow, waterfalls freeze and turn into blocks of ice.

Built around 1180, Borgund Stave Church of the Apostle Andrew is exceptionally well-preserved and is one of the most distinctive stave churches in Norway.

WALKING 

Den Kongelige Postveg/Kongevegen (The Royal Post Road) is a picturesque path along the shores of the Nærøyfjord from Bleiklindi to Styvi. Beitelen and Rimstigen and are steep and heavy walks with fantastic panoramas over the fjords.
